Pomegranate

The pomegranate is an up and coming fruit. The pomegranate grows on a small tree or a shrub. These fruits have been around since 1769 but they have not been too popular until the past few years when pomegranate juice began to establish itself as a healthy juice as well as an antioxidant.

Pomegranates are known to have an effect of certain types of cancers such as skin cancer, prostate cancer and colon cancer. The antioxidants that are contained in the fruit work with the body's natural immune system to fight off the bad cells that are trying to infect the good cells.

The Pomegranate can be grown in dry areas or dessert like conditions. In fact it is said that the pomegranates were first discovered in the desserts of Iran. When they are grown in wetter climates they tend to get fungal diseases and the roots become decayed.

The nutritional value of the pomegranate are as follows they have 82 % water, 3.4 grams of fiber, 0 grams of fat, 17 grams of natural sugar, 10 % vitamin a and 7 % vitamin c. The pomergrante as a fruit has a sweet taste to them and you can even eat the seeds. But it is the pomegranate juice that is becoming all the rage. Health nuts are drinking this newfound juice because of the antioxidants they have in them.
