Mango

Mangos are not your typical standard fruit. Mangos are considered tropical and exotic, but most people don't know that have a very high nutritional value. They are considered fleshy fruits along the lines of peaches, plums and nectarines. In places all over the world mangos are used more in cooking as an ingredient rather than eating it as you would a banana or apple.

Mangos can be eaten when it is incorporated into a recipe or eaten in slices but the most common forms of mango is mango juice and mango ice cream. The mango has a very sweet flavor but it has a kick to it. The mango is an acquired taste when eaten plain.

The nutritional value of the mango is 81 % water, has less than 1% of protein, contains 0 fat, and has 17 grams of carbohydrates and 65 calories. The mango is high in potassium, phosphorous, vitamin c, vitamin a and vitamin b.

Not only does the mango have a great nutritional value but it does have it's medicinal purposes, such as not many know that the mango is from the same family as poison ivy but has much less urushiol, the ingredient that makes you itch and it's where your rash comes from. The mango leaves are toxic to animals mainly cows.

Lastly, some people may develop dermatitis from just the touch of a mango peel or the sap that comes from the leaves. But ironically, if that same person eats a mango someone else puts out with the fruit only, there would be no medical reason why they could not enjoy the fruit.
